The frame drum is an ancient instrument that has been played in most cultures for thousands of years as a healing tool and a vehicle for self transformation and ceremony.

  

Believed to have evolved from the grain seive, it's a deceptively simple instrument that has the rawhide of a sacred animal stretched over a wooden frame.  

  

It was the main instrument of worship for millenia.  When Rome adopted Christianity around 200AD, it was made an act of heresy to play the frame drum.

The Tah is a beautiful small open backed frame drum played predominantly with the fingers of both hands.

There are many styles of frame drum that I play and teach people to make and play.  Here are a few.
